Hello everyone!
I wasn’t really sure what my next post should be about, I thought “should I write about myself and let everybody know who I am so they can know more about the writer of this blog? Or should I write about potty training?”
You may or may not have heard of Early Elimination Communication, let me tell you a little bit about what I know so far. I started to follow some Mommy and Parenting groups in Facebook and in one of the posts I read about a Mom who was training her little boy to start using his potty at 8th months old! Yes, 8 months old!!! So I thought “what? Am I already late?” She also mentioned Early Elimination Communication so I started to make a little research about that and found out that some moms started with this method since 3 or 4 months and I was shocked!
What I found out about this method is that, in the places where there is a lot of poverty and the parents don’t have enough economical resources to buy diapers they just have to carry their babies without any diapers, and in order for the moms to not be peed or pooped every time, mommies learn to see their cues and signals so they and the babies are not dirty all the time. It is similar to learn to identify when they are hungry or sleepy. It is a connection that you have to have with your baby.
So I decided to buy the potty for my little one and see how it goes, she is 10 months and she can sit and stand now, so I thought it would be easier for her to sit on the potty. You can buy one on Amazon, this is the one I bought:
I liked this one in particular because the baby can use it for training and then the base can be used later on so the baby can use it as a step so she can use the big toilet and the seat can be put on the big toilet as an adjustment so the baby don’t fall into it.
Well, once it arrived, I sat my baby on it as a practice with clothes and everything during 4 days, so she could get familiar with it, on the 5th day I said let’s start using it, so as a 1st stage I did the following, as soon as she woke up I took her diaper off and took her to the potty, and as soon as I put her she pee! I was amazed! and I must say that she did a lot haha!
Then when she went for a nap as soon as she woke up I did the same and she pee again! and I did it with the next nap as well and it worked!
So the first day of training we caught 3 pees in the potty and she did amazing! We sang a pee song while she was seated, we celebrated after each pee by clapping and saying goodbye to it while flushing the toilet.
I have to say that it has been a little exhausting, because she is still using the same kind of diapers, not the training ones and well…, as she does not walk yet, so I have to carry her and all.
I am new in this but it has been great so far, today is day 3, yesterday we caught 5 pees and today is 2 pm now and we have caught 3 already out of 4, so we are doing very good.
I would love to hear what have you know about this method and share if you have any experience about it, so please comment below!
